Our Services

​​Whānau Support
Able Minds offers either one on one family support, or group sessions for families who are supporting a family member affected by mental health challenges or addiction. Our trained field workers can either come to you, or we facilitate peer groups where families can meet other families going through similar challenges.

Timeout Contact
We work alongside children and their significant whānau by providing a neutral supervised contact service to maintain family bonds.

Tangata Whaiora (individual seeking mental health) Support
If you are seeking help in your personal wellbeing journey, we offer assistance by facilitating peer support where you can join others who are also walking the same path in healing from either mental illness or addiction.

Supporting Parents – Healthy Children (SPHC)
With up to 70% of those who experience mental illness being parents, SPHC is a vital service that works alongside parents, caregivers and whanau to provide support, education and resources, which in turn improves outcomes and well-being of children.

Our Signature Programmes

Rangatahi & Wellbeing (RAW)
This programme is specifically designed for rangatahi (youth) aged from 12 -21 years who are affected by mental distress and/or addiction issues, or for young people who need general life coaching. Able Minds works to empower rangatahi to build confidence, resilience and independence; to move forward and live well.

Children Understanding Mental Illness & Addiction (CUMIA)
Children who have a parent with mental health and / or addiction issues are at increased risk of poor outcomes. Fortunately, these risks can be mitigated with effective support such as Able Minds' CUMIA programme which provides children with a safe space to learn, express their feelings and develop coping strategies.

Dunedin Foodshare (and Activities Centre)
​Partnering with the great Kiwi initiative Kiwiharvest, Able Minds’ Foodshare Service provides hope and comfort to families in times of need by delivering nutritious food parcels to families across Dunedin. Kiwiharvest signs up food providers, collects food and delivers this to Able Minds in Dunedin, which then distribute the food to families.

Light Beyond the Shadows
Have you lost a loved one to suicide, or are you worried about someone? For those facing often-insurmountable grief from losing a loved one to suicide, it can be a difficult and lonely journey. Able Minds is here to support you by facilitating confidential group sessions, where family members can share their experiences and gain a better understanding of the complexities of suicide with our experienced team.
